Amanda + Glen’s Wedding Photography | Vernon, British Columbia
There is nothing like returning to one’s hometown to shoot a wedding for friends, amongst friends. Crazily enough, I get to photograph two such weddings on back-to-back weekends here in my beautiful Okanagan Valley, and I truly could not be more thrilled!
This past Saturday I photographed the wedding of Amanda + Glen right here in Vernon, BC. For those who know it, there’s no place like it, and for those who don’t…well, get your travel butts in gear and make your way to the North Okanagan one day. I’ll tell you a little more about why in my Friday’s Favourite post, but for now, just trust me. It is always such a gift for me to get to fly back home and photograph weddings during which I’m photographing people I love and care about, meeting people I’ve been hearing about forever, and shooting in locations that hold innumerable memories for me. Just to give you some examples, here’s a quick overview of the locations we used and the memories they held for me:
Wedding Prep @ Predator Ridge Resort: Where I spent the first couple days of my honeymoon two years ago. Ceremony @ Vernon Alliance Church: My original home church in Vernon. Photos of Amanda + Glen @ Polson Park: Where I worked as a flower planter for three summers straight during university. Photos of the Wedding Party on Kalamalka Lake: Not the same location, but still the same lake Will + I got married on. Wedding Reception @ The Vernon Lodge: Where the dinner + dance portion of my (and everyone else in Vernon’s!) high school graduation took place.
And that’s just to name my most prominent memories from each location, but there are SO many more!
Aside from all that, Amanda + Glen, their guests, and their wedding party were amazing. I don’t attend too many weddings in which there is a strong blend of passionate emotion and quiet peace present throughout the day, but this wedding was overflowing with both. The overarching sense of peace was definitely the biggest highlight for me, but of course there were others, one being Amanda’s dress of course! In order to avoid over-using words like ‘beautiful’ and ‘stunning’ and ‘gorgeous’ as I’m sure I’m prone to do, I try and allocate a unique descriptive word to every dress I photograph. I literally gasped when I took her dress from the hanger to photograph it. You won’t find it as dramatic in the photos featured here because it’s been photographed in even shade, but when photographed under more uneven lighting where shadows can enrich the drama of this dress, (such as during Amanda’s photos while she was getting ready) it becomes very apparent how detailed and luxurious this dress is. My word to define it: spectacular. It was really one of the most spectacular dresses I’ve seen in person on a bride. My own personal highlight from the day was walking out into the ceremony venue to see the room filled with old friends grinning back at me and giving me discreet little waves during the service…what a fun welcome back!
Anyway, I could rattle on forever about this wedding, but I’ll refrain and just let you soak up the photos. I know this is just a glimpse, but hopefully it’ll do the trick while Amanda + Glen wait for their collection to be edited and posted to their gallery!
Many thanks to Amanda + Glen, their wedding party, family and all that helped put on this incredible event. PS The shoot you did of the girl in the orangey/red dress in the field–WHAT a fantastic shoot!!!
