Turkish Delight | Our first days on the Mediterranean

Here I sit, jet-lagged, comfortably warm, and taking in the scent of jasmine from our second storey terrace of the Göcek Dim Hotel, just two blocks shy of the Mediterranean which beckons each time I catch a glimpse of her.  Surrounding the languid harbour filled with ‘modest’ yachts and minimal foreigners, a range of hills and cliffs dotted with pine forests and backed by even more dramatic mountains silently watches over the sleepy town of 4500.  We feel just as sleepy and peaceful nestled in a cozy embrace of creamy light, silvery olive trees, and more pomegranates, limes, figs, and bougainvillaea than I can train my lens on!  My parents have joined Will and I here in this Edenic little cove, and before we alight our gullet in Fethiye tomorrow, I though I’d share at least one photo from our first few days in Turkey.

Below, a gullet (motorized sailboat) sits peacefully amidst its sleeker yacht sisters in the Gocek harbour.  Our own gullet trip will begin just south of us in Fethiye tomorrow morning and will continue down the coast, skirting inlets and villages along the way.  After a three-night voyage we will land in Olympos and start our trek north to Selcuk and the ruins of Ephesus.  Aside from the climate, geography, and adventure of it all, I am loving the warmth and ease of the Turkish people here on the Coast, not to mention the equally fabulous food!  Which we are about to go partake of seeing as how it’s dinnertime here.

More photos to follow next week!  For more frequent updates, follow our journey on Instagram by looking up jlfenwick or by Liking Jaime Lauren Photography on Facebook.  To share with friends + family, feel free to use the Pin and Like buttons below.  Enjoy!
